Advanced Middle School Writing Workshop
Course Description
Reading comprehension, clear self-expression, and increased comfort with the writing process are the major goals of this course. Students will complete longer writing assignments with an emphasis on the convention of expository writing and the five-paragraph essay. Students learn how to establish topics, identify strategies for brainstorming and organization, craft outlines, build sentences, and write well-developed paragraphs. Group activities and feedback are provided regularly. Students will leave the course with a diverse portfolio of descriptive, persuasive, narrative, and expository writing.
