Creative Writing Workshop
Course Description
The Creative Writing workshop offers aspiring student writers the opportunity to explore and develop their talent in a safe and stimulating environment. During the workshop, students will learn tools and strategies for developing their writing craft. Areas of focus include developing character, effectively employing figurative language, and playing with diction and rhetoric. This workshop is not genre-specific, so students will be free to write in a genre of choice while focusing on elements of craft. Students will, however, be encouraged to take risks and also write in genres and styles that are unfamiliar to them. This is a writing-intensive workshop, yet students will also be expected to read extensively from an anthology created specifically for writers. Part of our daily discussion will include the deconstruction of model texts that we will use to learn about writing craft. By the end of the workshop, students will have created a mini-portfolio to showcase their work.
