British Swim School

Pingry Summer is very excited to partnering with the renowned British Swim School to provide our campers with a first class swim experience. All Classes will be taughted by certified British Swim School instructors. Their methodology allows for the swimmers to progress at their own pace though the program over the course of their training.

Program details
British Swim Schools offer swimming lessons for children, focusing first on water survival skills needed to survive a water accident before moving onto stroke development and more advanced skills.

We offer a Safe swimmer program(3 levels – Starfish, Minnow and Turtle1) and stroke development program(3 levels – Turtle2, Shark1 and Shark2) to introduce your child to the water or advance your
child’s swimming skills.

Starfish

Water Acclimation: 3+ Years (4 Children Max)

Starfish is a swimming class for kids that’s geared towards gentle water exploration and developing the child’s awareness of the aquatic environment while introducing the water survival exercises used in later swim lessons. The aim of these children’s swimming lessons is to build confidence and self-esteem. We also focus on developing awareness and the ability to respond to new challenges while giving your child independence to explore the aquatic environment.

Goals

  • Water acclimation
  • No tears, no fear
  • Supported back float with ears in
  • Jumping submersion from the wall
  • Independence in the swim ring

Minnow

Beginner Water Survival: 3+ Years (4 Children Max)

Want a beginner swimming class for your child who loves the water? Kids participate in this small group swim class that concentrates on fun, safety, and independence in the water. Watch as your little ones and their swim instructor have fun while learning beginner water survival techniques.

Goals

  • Safe entry/safe exit
  • Jump in, rollover and float for 20 seconds independently
  • Independent glide back to the wall
  • Elementary backstroke for 10 cycles
  • Swordfish start, push glide from wall into a rollover. Back float for 20 seconds.

Turtle 1

Advanced Water Survival: 3+ Years (4 Children Max)

In this small group kids swimming class, children are introduced to propulsion skills for water survival. Learning beginner strokes on their backs and fronts, they will be prepared for our more advanced stroke levels.

Goals

  • Streamline with flutter kick independently
  • Swim-roll-swim to safety
  • Independently swim 10 yards or 10 cycles of beginner backstroke with arms out
  • Independently swim 10 yards or 10 cycles of beginner freestyle with arms out
  • Demonstrate breathing on the side

Turtle 2

Beginner Stroke Skills: 3+ Years (6 Children Max)

Swimmers focus on the correct arm, leg, and breathing coordination for three strokes: freestyle, backstroke, and breaststroke. Students also get an introduction to butterfly. Students are constantly moving in this swimming class for kids, swimming in groups of twos and threes.

Goals

  • Backstroke 20 yards
  • Freestyle 20 yards
  • Recognizable breaststroke 10 yards
  • Demonstrate butterfly kick 10 yards
  • Tread water for 1 minute

Shark 1

Advanced Stroke Skills: 3+ Years (6 Children Max)

These advanced swimming lessons for kids allow swimmers to perfect their techniques in four strokes: freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly. Children are constantly moving in this class, swimming in groups of twos and threes.

Goals

  • Backstroke 25 yards
  • Freestyle 25 yards
  • Breaststroke 25 yards
  • Butterfly 25 yards
  • Freestyle flip turn

Shark 2

Pre-Team Swimmers: 3+ Years (6 Children Max)

Is your child passionate about swimming? In Shark 2 swimming class, students are prepared for future swim team participation with attention on drills, starts and turns, individual medleys, and increasing speed and stamina in the water.

Goals

  • Backstroke 50 yards
  • Freestyle 50 yards
  • Breaststroke 50 yards
  • Butterfly 50 yards
  • Starts and turns for each stroke
