Art Fundamentals
Course Description
Summer Art Fundamentals is a prerequisite for all Level I Art classes and offers a unique alternative to the year-long course. This summer course provides an opportunity for artistic advancement, although it cannot be taken for credit. However, students who successfully complete the course—based on a performance review—may bypass Art Fundamentals and enroll directly in a Level I Art class as 9th graders.
This immersive four-week program introduces students to the core principles of two-dimensional and three-dimensional design. Through engaging, hands-on projects, they will develop a strong visual vocabulary, allowing them to cultivate their own artistic voice and perspective. By exploring both historical and contemporary approaches to art, students will experiment with a variety of materials and techniques, deepening their understanding of the creative process.
Designed for students committed to the full Upper School art sequence, this course provides an invaluable extra year for artistic exploration and growth.
