Algebra (Math 3Y)
Course Description
This course is designed to teach the topics in a typical first year algebra course. Topics include solving linear and quadratic equations and inequalities, as well as equations involving rational and radical expressions. Function notation is introduced and various classifications of functions are explored. Topics from coordinate geometry include graphing linear and quadratic functions, graphing inequalities, and applications of the Pythagorean Theorem, the distance formula, and special right triangles. Students learn how to solve systems of linear equations and inequalities, as well as 3-variable and nonlinear systems. Exponential functions are also explored.
This course meets the credit requirements for a full year algebra course.
Note: This course is for Pingry students only and requires pre-approval. No more than 2 absences will be allowed for a student to earn the opportunity to advance in their curriculum in the fall.
