Course Description

Health 10 is a dynamic, hands-on course designed to equip students with the essential knowledge and skills needed to manage physical, mental, and emotional well-being. This is a required course for Form IV students and is meant to provide students with the tools to navigate health challenges in both their personal lives and within the broader community.

The course begins with a dive into wellness as a whole and how students can set themselves up for success. This is tied into the Anatomy and Physiology unit as we dive into the anatomy of the lungs, heart, and brain, exploring lifestyle habits, many of which we just learned, that reduce the risk of common illnesses such as heart attack and stroke. Students will learn how these organs function and how adopting healthy habits can have a profound impact on long-term health.
The core of the course then shifts to life-saving certifications. Through the American Heart Association’s Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider and Heartsaver First Aid courses, students will develop critical skills to recognize and respond to life-threatening emergencies. The course concludes with a focus on the identification and response to teen mental health challenges and crises. Through discussions and role-playing scenarios, students will receive teen Mental Health First Aid (tMHFA) training, enabling them to recognize when a friend may be struggling with mental health challenges or crises, and empowering them to take action and seek adult support.

By the end of the course, students will be better equipped to make informed decisions regarding their health, respond effectively in emergencies, and support their peers through mental health challenges or crises. Students will receive three certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) for the Healthcare Provider, Heartsaver First Aid, and teen Mental Health First Aid.

This class is a requirement for all Pingry Sophomores.
Students must attend all meeting days and times to earn credit.
