Course Description

You might have heard that some Chinese characters originated from simple elements and images of nature; for example, the character of “竹” (zhú, bamboo竹), which looks just like a bamboo plant! In this class, you will be able to recognize and handwrite 100 fundamental pictographic Chinese characters, as well as develop basic conversational Chinese skills such as asking and answering one’s name, age, family, and likes and dislikes. The class features a series of hands-on artistic projects, including calligraphy writing, paper cutting, lantern painting, zodiac animal signage designing, and many others. What’s even more fun is that you will learn how to make dumplings and Chinese Hot Pot and eat like a Chinese! Let’s discover the Chinese characters associated with animals, food, and nature and the fascinating stories and cultures behind them. No prior background in Chinese is required.
